Aji

“Aji” (アジ)¹⁾ is a fictional Pokémon evolution for Pidgey that looks like a Japanese horse mackerel with legs. It was initially discovered on 2channel's /news4vip/ board on May 6, 2006.²⁾ Logically, they'd evolve into “Ajotto” (アジョット) with the fish gaining a muscular human body.

Notes

“Aji” (アジ) is interesting when it comes to Chinese hanzi and Japanese kanji.
- In Chinese, “鰺” is the traditional form and “鲹” is the simplified form, pronounced “shēn”.
- In Japanese, “鰺” is the (old) kyūjitai form and “鯵” is the (new) shinjitai form.
On Niconico, Aji has been called one of the heroes from the “Beta” era, though the video featuring them was uploaded during the “Gamma” era³⁾ within a year of Aji's creation.
You could say that Pidgey's evolution looks a little… “fishy” (生臭く, namagusaku).
