Detroit Sports Radio Overview

This article intends to be a weekday programming archive for the current and former sports radio stations in the Detroit market, though this list may not be exact or perfect. Ideally, this article will focus on local hosts and shows, not syndicated programming from a national radio network.

At the time of this writing, WXYT-FM (97.1 FM) dominates the sports radio scene in Detroit, being the flagship station for the Lions, Tigers, Pistons, Red Wings, and Wolverines with overflow programming going to their sister stations.1) The Spartans have WJR (760 AM) instead.

Current stations

97.1 The Ticket (2000–)

WXYT-FM (97.1 FM), currently branded as 97.1 The Ticket, is a sports radio station that initially began on WXYT (1270 AM) around 2000. Sports Rap Radio (2024–)

WXYT (1270 AM), currently branded as Sports Rap Radio, is a black-owned sports (and hip-hop) station which launched on June 3, 2024. The project was spearheaded by Rob Parker, who lamented the lack of black hosts in the area despite its significant African-American population.2) The station has a two-year lease with Audacy and operates from the Audacy station, but does have its own marketing team.

It eventually flipped to be a Black Information Network affiliate.
