Qiangguo
History
On May 9, 1999, the People's Daily Online sets up the “Intense Protests Against NATO Atrocities BBS Forum” (强烈抗议北约暴行BBS论坛, Qiángliè Kàngyì Běiyuē Bàoxíng BBS Lùntán)3) in response to the then-recent United States bombing of the Chinese embassy in Belgrade and NATO bombing of Yugoslavia. The long name was then replaced with its current name, “Qiángguó Lùntán” (强国论坛), by June 19, 1999.
In the past, the forum was used to interview high-profile politicians, such as Dmitry Medvedev in 2007,4) as part of a Sino-Russian joint initiative,5) and Hu Jintao in 2008.6)7) In addition, their website also housed blogs in 2006, a social bookmarking service in 2008, and a government petition system in 2009 that lasted a whole decade, but these were all removed by the early 2020s.

- The “E-Zhèng Guǎngchǎng” (E政广场, lit. “E-Government Plaza”) was a public consultation platform regarding local and national matters at “ezheng.people.com.cn”, which ran from 2009 to 2019.
- Their derogatory nickname is “Qiángguó Lùntán” (墙国论坛, lit. “Walled Nation Forum”), often used by anti-establishment types regarding alleged 'internet censorship' despite the availability of VPNs.
