1st (2003)
The first tournament was straightforward as it ran from October 17, 2003 to November 15, 2003. To put that into perspective, Touhou Youyoumu was just released at Comiket 64 back in August, so there weren't any announcements for Touhou Eiyashou or Touhou Suimusou yet. All of the Windows era characters had been entered, but we also saw PC-98 characters like Chiyuri and Mima entered as well.

In the end, the first Touhou Saimoe Tournament was won by Yuyuko who had 49 more votes than Patchouli in a final round that gathered 419 votes, but there really wasn't that much celebration in the end.
2nd (2005)
Qualifiers
The second tournament began on January 22, 2005. To set the scene, Touhou Eiyashou was released at Comiket 66 a few months ago, but Touhou Kaeizuka hadn't been announced yet and it wasn't known that Yuuka would reappear, meaning that Yuuka fans were solely people interested in the old PC-98 works back then. Unlike the first tournament, the second tournament starts off with two qualifiers.

For the PC-98 qualifiers, we see Shinki, Mima, and Yuuka advancing. However, the write-in qualifiers is where it gets a bit strange. While it ends with Shanghai Doll and Rinnosuke advancing, there were a number of votes for the same character that were treated as a separate entry. If we combine the votes, the results would actually stay the same1) except Layla would clinch 6th place, which moves Youki to 7th place.
Main Bracket
We finally get to the main tournament bracket on January 27, 2005, though it's a bit lopsided. Ignoring that, the tournament bracket ran through March 13, 2005, weeks before Touhou Kaeidzuka was announced.

At the end of this tournament, we see Meiling winning with 66 more votes than Sakuya in a final round that gathered 1642 votes. Oddly enough, the final match isn't what got the most votes, that title belongs to the Flandre vs Yuyuko match that gathered 1923 votes. Anyways, Meiling got the board name after her, which is how the Touhou Series Board also became known as the “Gate Board.”
