Kantai Collection (艦隊これくしょん, Kantai Korekushon), shortened to KanColle (艦これ), is a Japanese browser game that was developed by Kadokawa Games, and published by DMM.com since April 23, 2013. It used to be a Flash game up until August 17, 2018.¹⁾

The game is a region-locked²⁾ resource management game, with some degree of skill or luck. As for the gameplay, you take the role of “admiral” (提督, teitoku) who overlooks fleets of “ship girls” (艦娘, kanmusu) that are sent off to sorties to progress,³⁾ expeditions to gather resources which could take real-time hours or days, and occasionally repaired which also takes time unless you have buckets.

Outside of the convoluted gameplay and wait timers, the story is completely bare bones, being driven by its World War II theming and the “abyssals” being mysterious recurring enemies. An optimist might view their completely lack of story offering artistic freedom, but their official media has suffered due to its ambiguity and the fact that it just doesn't make sense to non-fans.

  A local proxy tool used to bypass the IP block and caches assets to make it load a bit faster.
• Electronic Observer (EO)
  English translation of the Japanese viewer that isn't dead, Electronic Observer.
• Poi
  This is a viewer, supporting multiple languages, that has a number of features and plugins.
• KanColle Command Center Kai (KC3)
  An extension for Chromium-based browsers.
• KanColle English Patch
  Self-explanatory patch for KCCacheProxy, though it can apparently be used for Poi as well.

• While Kantai Collection isn't an adult game, the terms of service for DMM.com technically forbids people under 18 from signing up,⁴⁾ presumably since DMM.com also houses adult content.
  • That said, their discontinued PlayStation Vita game had a CERO rating of “C” (Ages 15+) and the 2016 movie had an Eirin rating of “G” (General Audiences).
• For the basic English interface: click on the configuration cog, go into the “interface mode” tab, then select “Type 3 Kai UI” (三式改UI, sanshiki kai yūai) and “set” (設定, settei) it.
