Turkish bulletin boards

A number of anonymous Turkish-language bulletin board websites have existed, but almost nothing has been documented,1) plus you get the feeling that the active websites aren't really used much. I didn't want to just write nothing, however, so I'll leave something.

Defunct boards

  • turkchan.tktrchan.org [2011-05-212) – 20133)]
    • turkchan.org [2013-10-154)5)6) – 20167)]
    • toruchan.org [2013-10-168) – 2017?]
  • trchan.net [2016 – 2017]
  • sichan.ch [2017 – 2018/20199)]

Active boards

  • tahta.ch / tahta.pw / tahta.se [2013-10-24?10) –]11)
  • kereste.moe [2021-03-0712)13) –]14)

Notes

  • “Çan” (chan) may be mistranslated as “bell”. For instance, “çan kültürü” means “chan culture”.
  • “Sıçan” (sichan, lit. “rat”) is a term used for the former Sichan userbase.
  • There is a reason why Turkish users usually type in lowercase, but I will not disclose that yet.
1)
Other than ancient posts from 4chan and Ekşi Sözlük, the only thing of substance is the Yansiklopedi article on Toruchan, but it's non-serious and the article is about a website that died back in 2018.
2)
"hoşgeldiniz gençler" (May 21, 2011). Turkchan /tr/.
3)
TRchan's estimated death is between August 21, 2013 and October 13, 2013.
4)
"turkchan.org açıldı!" (October 15, 2013). Steam Community.
7)
Turkchan's estimated death is between March 18, 2016 to July 25, 2016.
8)
"admin bu tirad kaybolursa ananı sikerim" (October 16, 2013). Toruchan /xoru/.
9)
Sichan's domain was released in 2019, ending with a short animation saying it died in 2018.
10)
Tahta's first news post was allegedly made on October 24, 2013 and the oldest archived thread that I could find was made on October 27, 2013.
11)
Five seconds of research will tell you that nobody likes “Tunay”, often rendered as “Tungay” or “Tunpiç”, presumably because the moderation style is haphazard as the rules are vague.
12)
"This is nice board" (March 7, 2021). Kereste /comfy/.
14)
Kereste was originally anime-themed, imitating 4chan's /qa/ or /jp/ spinoffs, but some migrations occurred, then it suddenly changed ownership around October 2022 and recently became a cesspool.
