711chan was the 'chaotic' bulletin board that was co-founded by “jewlion” and “plasma” around November 20, 2007,1) then shut down by 2012. It would mostly be known for triggering Project Chanology, which caused a brief strife over Anonymous's nature and end goal.
Around November 20, 2007,2) “jewlion” and “plasma” allegedly saw 'moderator drama' on 7chan and decided to set up Kusaba X at the “711chan.org” domain,3) but ended up benefiting from 420chan's brief downtime.4) Soon enough, they housed another “Invasion” (/i/) refuge,5) but came under fire for a "CoS" (/xenu/) board6) which caused a 420chan–Enturbulation split,7) so /xenu/ was deleted after three months.8)
In 2008, they had PayPal problems9) and shut down to fund a new server10) in 16 days.11) In 2009, a VPD detective working with Interpol had asked 711chan to remove footage of a cat drowning,12) so they just slapped it on the front page to 4chan's disdain,13) then the staff joined Twitter.14) There wasn't much else after that, aside from Kusaba X exploits, so 711chan shut down by Spring 2012.15)
Two years later, 314chan founder “parley” offered to host 711chan,16) so the website just came back online at the original “711chan.org” domain with a Kusaba X fork.17) The website's front page would see a redesign on November 6, 2014,18) then 711chan died again in late 2015 and it became a splash page for their IRC channel. Eventually, 7-Eleven bought the domain around 2020, which marked the end of 711chan.
On December 10, 2022, “lolwut” and “Comatoast” resurrected 711chan,19) though they kept “Kusaba X” and had to settle at “711chan.net” since the original domain was taken by the actual convenience store chain. Recently, the website set up a Tor address on February 8, 2023.20) Then on October 24, 2024, “bigbully” had announced that 711chan effectively shut down, essentially due to a lack of interest.21)
