8chan, also known as 8moe, is a bulletin board website that allows people to create and manage their own boards. The website was co-founded by Mark Mann and “Acid” (Acid Man, AcidOverlord) on April 25, 2020,¹⁾ where it positioned itself as one of the many successors to 8chan.

After the fall of 8chan in August 2019, the /v/ community took refuge at “vch.moe”,²⁾ and it briefly returned to 8kun until Mark Mann had a public falling out with NTTEC.³⁾⁴⁾ With the “8chan.moe” domain registered on November 13, 2019 and a LynxChan fork, presumably PenumbraLynx, set up around April 21, 2020,⁵⁾ we saw a new 8chan formally open on April 25, 2020.⁶⁾⁷⁾⁸⁾ “8chan.se” was registered shortly after.⁹⁾

Later that year, 'PenumbraLynx 2.4' would be forked into the '8moe Frontend' (8moefe),¹⁰⁾ and then it became 'Aleph' by mid-2021.¹¹⁾ Most of the early 2020s were otherwise unremarkable. Then on April 14, 2025, there was a 4chan hack that caused the website to shut down for 11 days, which caused 8moe to gain a fair amount of traffic and publicity as a 4chan alternative.¹²⁾¹³⁾
