8chan (8moe)

8chan, also known as 8moe, is a bulletin board website which lets people create and manage their own boards. This iteration would be founded by “AcidMan” (AcidOverlord) and “Mark Mann” around April 2020, positioning itself as one of the many successors to 8chan.

History

Following the fall of 8chan in August 2019, the /v/ community took refuge at “vch.moe”1) before the eventual return to 8kun, then Mark Mann had a falling out with NTTEC since it was evident that 8kun wasn't getting anything done.2)3) In the aftermath, a new 8chan emerged at the “8chan.moe” domain, with a LynxChan fork, sometime on April 21, 20204) but it seems like it didn't officially go public until April 25, 2020.5)6)

The details about the board software is rather vague, but it's clear that the website used the LynxChan fork, PenumbraLynx, to achieve their goals of being an 8chan successor. From there, “PenumbraLynx 2.4” was forked into the 8moe Frontend (8moefe)7) which eventually became Aleph around mid-2021.8) Of course, for a website housing multiple boards, there's not much else to report.

Notes

  • Yes, there is still a GamerGate thread on the “Video Games” (/v/) board.
