8chan (8chan.moe)
8chan, also known as 8moe, is a bulletin board website that allows people to create and manage their own boards. The website was co-founded by Mark Mann and “Acid” (Acid Man, AcidOverlord) on April 25, 2020,1) where it positioned itself as one of the many successors to 8chan.
History
After the fall of 8chan in August 2019, the /v/ community took refuge at “vch.moe”,2) and it briefly returned to 8kun until Mark Mann had a public falling out with NTTEC.3)4) With the “8chan.moe” domain registered on November 13, 2019 and a LynxChan fork, presumably PenumbraLynx, set up around April 21, 2020,5) we saw a new 8chan formally open on April 25, 2020.6)7)8) “8chan.se” was registered shortly after.9)
Later that year, 'PenumbraLynx 2.4' would be forked into the '8moe Frontend' (8moefe),10) and then it became 'Aleph' by mid-2021.11) Most of the early 2020s were otherwise unremarkable. Then on April 14, 2025, there was a 4chan hack that caused the website to shut down for 11 days, which caused 8moe to gain a fair amount of traffic and publicity as a 4chan alternative.12)13)
