Aji

Aji (アジ) is a fictional Pokémon evolution for Pidgey that resembles the Japanese jack mackerel, but with legs. It was initially discovered on 2channel's /news4vip/ board on May 6, 2006.1) When evolving, they'll gain a muscular human body, becoming Ajotto (アジョット).

Notes

  • The kanji 'aji' (鰺 → 鯵) in Japanese becomes the hanzi 'shēn' (鰺 → 鲹) in Chinese.
  • In Niconico, Aji is considered a hero of the 'beta' era, despite the video coming out in the 'gamma' era.2)
  • You can make an awful, but valid, pun about it being 'fishy' (生臭く, namagusaku).
  • Of course, 'Pijotto' (ピジョット) is a portmanteau of 'pigeon' (ピジョン, pijon) and 'jet' (ジェット, jetto), but I didn't want to take on the task of translating or localizing the evolved form.
