VIP Monsters

VIP Monsters (VIPモンスター), also called Pokémon VIP (ポケモンVIP),1) is a 2channel-themed ROM hack of Pokémon that began development in 2008 and fully released in 2010. It is one of the earliest 'full' hacks, though a bit dated as a result and limited in some areas.

The ROM hack contains a total of 151 catchable monsters that are themed after AA characters or memes that were relevant at the time, shown in the dropdown below. In addition, the ROM hack contains a new type chart where four of the original types are hidden (e.g. Ice) or replaced (e.g. Bug, Steel, Dragon) with three new types (e.g. Moe, Nuko, VIP) that better suit the ROM hack's theme.

Under normal circumstances, you are not supposed to have the Town Map as it would spoil the board names, meaning that you won't be able to see the map until you get Fly from the late dungeon Hamedori sidequest.2) However, I don't expect most people reading this article to understand every single ancient in-joke that existed since at the time, so I'll just reveal everything in the following chart:

Notes

  • The game contains a number of unique trainers, in addition to the unique monsters. For example:
    • On Route 5, you battle against: Ichirō, Guile, Putin, Seagal, and Abe-san.
      • It's important to remember that the ROM hack is from 2010, so this was before Steven Seagal's friendship with Vladimir Putin became widely known and led to Russian citizenship.
    • On the Siberian mountain range, you battle against the Rozen Maiden characters: Hinaichigo, Kanaria, Souseiseki, Barasuishou, Suiseiseki, Kirakisho, Shinku, and Suigintou.
  • After you beat the sixth gym leader, you're probably meant to lose to Suigintou as a fast way to leave the Siberian mountain range. Otherwise, she stands in front of the legendary monster Uprecus.
  • It should not be confused with the BanG Dream!! song, V.I.P MONSTER, that released in 2024.

You do gain access to the 'fast travel' transfer service in the Pokémon Center after you beat the fourth gym.

For context, 'Yuuya' (ゆうや) was a high school student who was amused by the 'Terabutadon' (テラ豚丼) incident at Yoshinoya and claimed that he deep-fried a cockroach as a part-time KFC employee, but VIPPERs thought it was too unethical and doxed him on December 5, 2007. It's like 4chan and the foot lettuce.

Shinku is actually found in the Siberian mountain range, not the board itself.

In 2001, the 2channel users had tried to rig Time's Person of the Year, following his voyeurism and drug use incidents, but the staff found out and canceled the vote, selecting Rudy Giuliani instead.
