Morala

Morala (モララー, Morarā), alternatively Moralar, Moraler, or Molalla,1) is an AA character that surfaced around April 10, 2000.2) He is a Mona variant, whose name is a portmanteau of “Monā” and “moral”,3) that initially debut as an inversion or conscious variant of Mona.

He has an iconic fixed expression. Some find it amusing, while others consider it creepy and may depict him as a killer. His catchphrase is “matāri shiyou yo!” (マターリしようよ！), meaning “let's relax” but in an old 2channel accent.4) In general, he was very popular and versatile, appearing in the Nurupo call-and-response routine, the Saitama trio, and had a bunch of stories (e.g. Moralar Plotting the World Uniform).

For some reason, this romanization has recently surfaced in the Shobon no Action community. However, the issue is that this would be “Morarra” (モラッラ), not “Morarā” (モララー), but it's also possible that we're reading this in the wrong language. Also, “lollapalooza” (ロラパルーザ, roraparūza).

At the time, 2channel users would replace the sokuon (っ/ッ) with a chōonpu (ー) in order to make their environment appear relaxed. For example, “mattari” (まったり, lit. “relax”) becomes “matari” (マターリ), “sekkusu” (セックス, lit. “sex”) becomes “sekūsu” (セクース), and so forth.
