Mona

Monā / Monar (モナー), formally known as Omae Mona (オマエモナー), is an AA character and well-known 2channel icon, but has origins on Ayashii World and Amezou. He is often mistaken for a cat, but he's actually a weird cat-bear hybrid instead.

The first iteration of Mona originated from Ayashii World or Amezou, dubbed the “First Mona” (初代モナー, Shodai Mona) or “Great Ancestor Mona” (ご先祖モナー, Go Senzo Mona). His old catchphrase was “you guys have too much spare time” (おまえらも暇な奴らだなぁ, omae-ra mo himana yatsurada nā), which was a saying from Reikon Channel1) that was used to break up intense debates.

On January 3, 2000, a thread for the First Mona was made in 2channel's /kitchen/ and it led to his modern, chunkier, sharp-eared form being made on February 18, 2000.2) Over time, his catchphrase was simply shortened to “omae mona” (オマエモナー), also rendered as “omae mona” (お前もな) and best translated as “look who's talking”, now pointing out contradictions.

“Reikon Channel” (霊魂ch) was an anonymous chatroom held every Friday at “A-8” (Band A, Channel 8) on Nifty-Serve's “CB Simulator” from 1995 to 1997 and users were named “Reikon” (霊魂, lit. “Soul”). Anonymity was lost in October 1997, but the chatroom managed until its last post in 2002. The chatroom had influenced a lot of early Ayashii World and 2channel culture, but it's mostly forgotten to time now.

"Onigiri" (おにぎり) is a Japanese rice ball. “Wasshoi” (ワッショイ) is a distinctive Japanese chant that people shout at festivals to coordinate actions and there's not really a good English equivalent for it.
