Tablecat is an AA character that is oddly unique to Western textboards. It came from 2channel around 2003,¹⁾ though it wasn't a character by itself until 4-ch and World4ch discovered it in 2005²⁾ and 2006³⁾ respectively. All that aside, it's just a wacky cat who says uncharacteristic things.

It isn't clear where the text artwork originated, but the earliest use of it that I could find was on December 12, 2003 in a Derby Tsuku 3: Derby Ba wo Tsukurou! thread on 2channel's /famicom/ board.⁴⁾ Interestingly, it has Fuun's face, says “Fuunnya” (ふーんにゃあ) which is a sigh going into a meow, and there's a fair amount of evidence indicating that it was originally apart of the Sasuga Brothers routine.⁵⁾⁶⁾

The cat was later edited to Mona's face and the text artwork would make its first appearance in the west on June 8, 2005 in 4-ch's /ascii/ board, except it was literally a cat.⁷⁾

Once the artwork was posted to World4ch's /vip/ board on June 28, 2006, the cat began to speak.⁸⁾ At the time, Lolcats were becoming popular, so the most common thing that users made them say was some variant of “I'm sitting on ur table, strokin my harbl”⁹⁾ (“I'm sitting on your table, stroking my hairy balls”). Soon after, one user decided to spam 2channel's /news4vip/ board with it for whatever reason.¹⁰⁾¹¹⁾
