Channel4, often called 4-ch, is an English bulletin board website that was established by “Squeeks” in October 29, 2004.¹⁾ As of 2020, it's currently run by “ssz”.²⁾ It's mostly old and unremarkable, being part of the Wakachan coalition and once called an unofficial successor to World2ch.

While the first post was made on October 29, 2004,³⁾ the actual domain wasn't registered by “Squeeks” until November 1, 2004.⁴⁾ At the time, the website used Kareha and affiliated with Wakachan. There appears to have been a soft reset around July 2006, a design overhaul around September 2006, then they added mobile support in 2007, but keep in mind that it was incredibly basic as it was before smartphones took off.

For the 2010s, the website faced brief downtime in December 2013, then “bps” was declared the new owner around January 2, 2014.⁵⁾⁶⁾ With the deaths of World4ch and Wakachan, a new imageboard was added in September 2015, but later closed in 2019. Overall, the “bps” era was mostly stagnant and uneventful, but this was coming to a close after some brief downtime around September 16, 2020.

Then on October 5, 2020, “ssz” was declared the new owner⁷⁾ and brought in long-awaited changes, namely “https://” support in December 2020. For the 10,000th day of September 1993,⁸⁾ the imageboard would return, /dqn/ had a frying pan counter, and some old CSS were restored. The default name on /iaa/ now rotated default names on March 14, 2021,⁹⁾ then several of 4-ch's boards were merged on March 21, 2021.¹⁰⁾

• “DQN” (ドキュン, Dokyun) is a negative Japanese term for an unsophisticated person who is typically aggressive and poorly educated, popularized by Witness! Dokyun in the late 1990s.
  • It isn't clear why “DQN” was chosen as the “VIP” analogue, but the term was first mentioned around November 26, 2004.¹¹⁾ Nowadays, it's better defined as an analogue for “chav” or “pleb”.
• In 2005–06, they temporarily housed the Cosplay and Video Games imageboard for Wakachan.
• “Shii” claimed to be an administrator,¹²⁾ but presumably left when he was moving on.
• The famous “tastes like prion disease” post¹³⁾ was made on May 20, 2013 (1993-09-7202).¹⁴⁾
  • Somebody assumed it was made on April 14, 2013 (1993-09-7166) from a Google search,¹⁵⁾ but it actually showed the thread creation date. Don't ask why it has 190,000+ notes on Tumblr.
