Ichigo Knight
“Ryō @ Ichigo Knight” (りょー@苺騎士)1) was a female Cookie☆ artist that was active from 2019 to 2020, but she was infamously tricked into doxing herself in the middle of a 2channel harassment campaign, and she reportedly ended up committing suicide on June 13, 2020.
History
“I'm worried some Homogaki will show up and cause trouble for Ichigo.”
– Ichigo Knight2)
For context, the Cookie☆ community had been seeking a lead on Ichigo from Kusso☆ S3, as her prior Twitter account was suspended, and obtained a lead on May 28, 2020.3)4) During this, some users in the 'Cookie☆ General Thread' looked at who just followed her,5) saw Ichigo Knight with an Ichigo avatar, and criticized her for worrying about Homogaki being nuisances6) despite fitting the definition of a Homogaki.7)
The enraged 2channel users would find underage drinking,8) sales of what is technically child pornography,9) and misleading photographs while trying to dox her. She was then made aware of the thread, begged for forgiveness with the tripcode of ◆YTXcN98b5s,10) and some joked 'self-doxing' was the solution. However, the problem is that she took this at face value, posting her real name.11)
Following a brief Super Smash Bros. Ultimate stream on TwitCasting,12) her mother eventually finds out about the situation by June 8, 2020, and a string of vent tweets followed as she set her account to private on June 10, 2020 since her mother was monitoring the account. As her relationship with her parents deteriorated, her suicidal ideation grew until the morning of June 13, 2020 where she made her last tweets.
On the same day, it was reported that a 15-year-old middle school girl from Fujimi, Saitama had committed rail suicide using a southbound train on the Tōbu Tōjō Line around 10:15am,13)14) which lines up with what everyone knew,15) and the parents requested anonymity.16) As mentioned in her final tweets, we did see her two posthumous illustrations for MariAli Day on June 16, 2020.17)
Reactions
In the following week, the 2channel thread had a brush of sympathetic posts, paranoid posts in the event of a police investigation, veterans chiming in to react, and completely random people demanding images of said victim. There was also a brief uproar on 2channel and Twitter after it was exposed that some were mocking her death in a public Discord server,18) though they were subsequently doxed and ran off.
The planner for the Kusso☆ series, Ako Atouda, had an interesting reaction to the suicide.19)20)21) He'd give a rather utilitarian explanation and believed some people were empathizing in the 'wrong' order,22)23)24) saying that they aren't considering the inconvenienced commuters who potentially shat themselves because their train was stopped.25) Afterwards, he says to not rush towards death.26)27)
Notes
- Ichigo Knight was born on April 13, 2005, meaning she was younger than Rina from Memo☆.
- Most of her posts under the tripcode have since been deleted, but they are retrievable.
- Her original Twitter account, @ryo_ICGknight, was presumably deleted after she committed suicide, allowing the handle to be picked up and squatted by a random Koushinist account.
