Kaomoji

Kaomoji (顔文字(かおもじ), lit. “written expression”)1) are vertical emoticons that are compact and typically associated with East Asian internet culture. Of course, be advised that some emoticons might have alternate meanings or interpretations to other people.

Notable kaomoji

This isn't going to be one of those web pages that provides 1,000+ assorted kaomoji to choose from, so I'm only listing a handful of kaomoji that pertain to this wiki or may possibly be of interest.

  • ヽ(´ー`)ノ
  • (;´Д`)
  • (゚Д゚)

Notes

  • “Yán wénzì” (顔文字) is the Chinese reading, but “biǎoqíng fúhào” (表情符号) is one alternative.
1)
The term 'kaomoji' (顔文字) is a portmanteau of 'kao' (顔, lit. “face”) and 'moji' (文字, lit. “written symbol”), which can be translated as 'written [facial] expression' if you don't want to diminish it to 'emoticon'.
