Odinchan
This article is about Kolchan. Not to be confused with Kohlchan.
1chan.ru, also called Odinchan (Одинчан) or Kolchan (Колчан), was a Russian bulletin board that was founded by “Odin-kun” (Один-кун) or “Jlbyrey” (Жилби) as a news page around May 2, 2009.1) After 2012, it fell into a decline and eventually died on March 15, 2015.
History
2009–2010
On May 2, 2009, it was announced that Odinchan would be a temporary replacement for Lenta-chan which meant that they'd serve news on Russian imageboard communities like Tirech (Sosach), Nullchan, IIchan, Dobrochan, Mentach, etc.2) Lenta-chan was eventually revived, but Odinchan would gradually surpass them in terms of general popularity. They did house a temporary textboard for refugees at some point.
Then on January 19, 2010, Odinchan rolled out a new engine which allowed commenting. The older posts were temporarily archived at “old.1chan.ru” until the two databases was merged, then they got their own category and people started to shitpost in the comments.3) A chatroom was installed on August 18, 2010, and a short-lived English clone was opened up at Chanosphere.
By the end of 2010, the website ended up becoming Dvatirech's main opposition, especially after the link to Odinchan was taken out of Dvatirech's frames on March 21, 2010. This was due to the fact that Odinchan was considered “unmoderated” like /unyl/, plus a former Dvatirech moderator and a tripcode personality were given moderator permissions which allowed anti-Dvatirech news and propaganda to flood the feeds.
2011–2015
In 2011, they moved to a new host, the aforementioned individuals had their permissions revoked, and they enforced a new moderation policy. Things started to calm down a bit, though it didn't last long and people started criticizing their administration. In response to complaints that news wasn't approved fast enough, the administrator would appoint an “approver” on August 11, 2011.
The following year was the Sosach-MDK situation and Odinchan had fun with it, dubbing it the “Great Urine Spill” and insisting that Nullchan was affected by it.4) This got Odinchan blacklisted from Sosach, so they changed Sosach's icon to VKontakte in response. However, the next three years were largely uneventful and the website was in an obvious decline. Eventually, Odinchan went down on March 16, 2015.
2019–2019
August 20, 2019 – December 31, 2019.
Notes
- If you're using a machine translation, “Kolchan” (Колчан) gets mistranslated to “Quiver”.
